Latakia is right behind and tasty. Upon opening the tin and peeling back the oily wax paper, there is a heavenly smell of a clean, rich tobacco. These two also only smoked Bangs and Jess pipes..... But the truth is, some of the blends made today by Esoterica, McClelland, Pease and a couple others are every bit as good as, or better than, anything available back in the day. Burns a little hot on the tongue and multiple bowls wear the mouth out, the effects lingering into the next day. It burns slowly for me and has a nice room note to it. I suspect that the ''Old School'' feel of this tobacco is obtained thru the savant use of chemicals, ( the secret recipe) and this alone disqualifies it from the favored list. However, only enjoying it in my first-of-the-day smoke could I enjoy the full taste of this blend, and just because of this fact I couldn't give this blend a 4-star. Great scent upon opening - my tin was fairly damp so I let some flakes dry for about 10 minutes before loading. Penzance is a lot more sublime than that. The bottom two teams break up in an every-chef-for-themselves cook-off in the Redemption Round. And of course I wasn't disappointed. I have been searching for a blend that gave quality and balance, and Penzance meets my criteria. It has a comforting room note that's smokey with Latakia, and with a slight sweetness.

Dunhill make great pipes and Germain makes great tobacco. Anyway, I have likely already said too much as there is a reason this is extremely hard to obtain. I expect I'll be able to live without it.
